Sacrada Familia in Barcelona

The Sagrada Família, is a basilica in Barcelona, Spain designed by Antoni Gaudí. The name means Basilica and Fine Temple of the Holy Family.

Since the laying of the first stone in 1882 is almost constantly being built on the church. Only during the Spanish Civil War did the construction stand still for a few years. The current official delivery date is 2026. The project management says that the building could be "ready sometime in the first third of the 21st century". The speed with which construction is progressing depends to a great extent on the donations that visitors bring in. Construction is taking so long that already completed parts have to be renovated. This was not unusual in the construction of churches of this size. Although the church is not ready yet, it was consecrated to Basilica by Pope Benedict XVI on November 7, 2010.

In addition to this basilica, architect Gaudí designed several other characteristic buildings in Barcelona, including Casa Batlló and Park Güell.
