Castle Coevorden in the Netherlands
The castle was used for the Battle of Ane in 1227 and with the Siege of Coevorden (1592). The castle was plundered, destroyed and rebuilt several times.
In 1402, Bishop Frederik van Blankenheim rebuilt the castle
From the twelfth to the fifteenth century the castle was inhabited by the burggraves of Coevorden.
In 1522 the castle was rebuilt by the Duke Charles of Gelre and probably got the large square shape that we see in sketches of a later date.
This large castle, too, has largely been abandoned. The ruins that remained were, not without a struggle, restored in 1967-1972 to their current state.
